Khali Estate, the base for the RTRC is a delightful, privately-owned heritage style hotel, at one time used as an ashram by Mahatma Gandhi and later as a home for Jawaharlal Nehru. Guest accommodation is in 15 tastefully designed stone-built twin-bedded cottages among pine trees, with views over the Himalayan peaks. The hotel is centred on an original colonial style bungalow, with a similarly designed dining room and a 40-seat conference room.
Community-owned and managed guest houses are located in six villages near the RTRC, around the Binsar Sanctuary, where participants will be made to feel at home. Facilities include three comfortable twin bedded rooms in each house, dining/living room with bokkari wood-burning stove, Western-style toilets, hot water showers, and solar lighting.
The RTRC offers a retreat for groups who wish to organise workshops through their own resource persons, with options for visiting villages with local guides. This offers government, NGO and private organisations opportunities for team-building and experience sharing in a rural context. We will look after logistics.
Guided workshops, in which Village Ways can arrange resource persons and facilitators to guide the learning experience, as well as local guides for village visits. Our Village Committee partners, with practical experience in community-managed tourism, will be key resource persons.
Tailor-made short course training in specialist topics related to responsible tourism in a workshop and village environment. These can be arranged for our collaborators at thr RTRC, to include formal training by resource persons at Khali Estate, combined with stays in villages, with exposure to the practical experience of our village partners. Visits can also be arranged to our Saryu Valley project and to sites of historical and cultural interest.
Guided walks and workshops to understand the ecological and environmental benefits of responsible community-based tourism, escorted by our local guides and professional naturalists who are well-versed in the flora and fauna of the region.
Our Responsible Tourism Resource Centre has ample facilities for groups of up to 20 people, with access to six partner villages and training resource persons.
We can arrange for train and road travel from Delhi, full board accommodation at the RTRC in Khali and in village guesthouses, resource persons, guides, communications, basic office facilities and add-on tours. All this and the peace and tranquility of the hills, against a backdrop of the magnificent Himalayan massif.
